Belt squats are excellent for scoliosis as they allow for heavy lower-body training while eliminating spinal compression. By loading the hips instead of the spine, it eliminates the strain you would have doing standard squats using a dumbbell or barbell. Particularly if you have a spinal fusion and metalware, like me. It offers a safe, comfortable way to build leg and glute strength, stability and core engagement, without pain. These are the only weighted squats I do; the belt squat has totally revolutionised the way I train.
This is a reverse hyperextension machine, which strengthens the spinal erector muscles that run the length of the spine. Their primary function is to support the spine, hence the name 'spinal erectors'.

Many lumbar problems are muscular in origin, and people suffering from lower back pain often have weak lumbar muscles.
